System Settings - Customer Management

This article will walk you through setting up your Customer Management in SalesManager, formerly known as NorthBoundary. This includes creating and managing Customer Custom Fields, Contact Custom Fields, and Customer Types.

To access your Customer Management settings: 

  1. Click the wheel icon on the top right of the page.

    • This will open a System Settings page allowing you to access all sub-menus.
  2. Click the Customer Mgmt button on the Nav Bar.

Customer Custom Fields

You can create Customer Custom Fields that can be used by your staff when Creating Customers.

These custom fields include:

Customer Custom Text Field

Customer Custom Text Fields allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols into a field.

To create a Customer Custom Text Field Under the Customer Mgmt menu, click Customer Custom Fields. Then Find an empty custom field with no red text on the header. This is a Customer Custom Text Field.

Note: The instructions below apply to all field types.

  1. Enter a Label Text that briefly describes the field.
  2. *optional Checking the Required box will make the field required.
  3. *optional Entering a Help Message will create a Help Icon next to the field. It gives details when the user hovers over the icon.
  4. *optional Entering a Clickable URL Link will make the field label name a clickable link.
  5. Click Save.

Customer Custom Drop-down List Field

Customer Custom Drop-down Fields allow you to select one from multiple pre-determined options.

Under the Customer Mgmt menu, click Customer Custom Fields. Then Find an empty custom field with red text on the header that reads 'Dropdown'. This is a Customer Custom Text Field.

  1. Follow Steps 1-4 on the Customer Text Custom Field instructions.
  2. Click the Edit List button to open the Custom Field List Menu.
  3. To create a drop-down menu option, enter an Item Name.
  4. *optional Enter a Clickable URL Link. This will make the Field Label a clickable link when you select a drop-down option.
  5. Click the Save button when done.
  6. Repeat Steps 3-5 of these instructions until you have all the drop-down options you want.
  7. To arrange the order of the drop-down menu, on the Item Name List, click the option you want to move and click the up or down arrow to move that item.

  8. When done click Save Order.

Customer Custom Date Field

Customer Custom Date Fields allow you to select a date.

Under the Customer Mgmt menu, click Customer Custom Fields. Then Find an empty custom field with red text on the header that reads 'Date Field'. This is a Customer Custom Date Field.

  1. Follow Steps 1-4 on the Customer Text Custom Field instructions.

Customer Custom Currency Field

Customer Custom Currency Fields allow you to enter a currency value. 

Under the Customer Mgmt menu, click Customer Custom Fields. Then Find an empty custom field with red text on the header that reads '$ Field'. This is a Customer Custom Currency Field.

  1. Follow Steps 1-4 on the Customer Text Custom Field instructions.

 

Contact Custom Fields

You can create Customer Custom Fields that can be used by your staff when Creating and Managing Contacts.

To create a Customer Custom Text Field Under the Customer Mgmt menu, click Contact Custom Fields.

These contact custom fields are set up and function identically to Customer Customer Fields. See Customer Custom Fields to learn how to create these fields.

 

Customer Types

You can create custom Customer Types to help organize your customers. Your staff can select this from the Type drop-down menu when Creating Customers.

  1. To create a Customer Type, click Customer Types under the Customer Mgmt menu.
  2. Enter the name of the type in the Customer Type field.
  3. Click Save.
