NorthBoundary will roll out Single Sign-On (SSO) on October 25th, 2023 across our office and mobile applications.

This article will provide you with an overview of the SSO rollout and provide answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

What is SSO?

Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication method that enables users to securely authenticate into multiple applications and websites using just one set of login credentials.

Is there any additional cost or subscription requirements?

No, SSO will be available at no charge to all our customers.

When will SSO be available?

SSO for the NorthBoundary Web Application and most of the additional applications in our suite of products will be complete by October 25th, 2023. See below for details.

Which NorthBoundary applications will use SSO?

The following applications will roll out the ability to use SSO for sign-in. This means you can use the same credentials for the following applications. We will update you in the Release Notes section when SSO is enabled for each of the following:

  • NorthBoundary Office App
  • NorthBoundary Mobile Apps

Can I use the same login credentials for both ServiceTrade and NorthBoundary?

Yes! Once Single Sign-On (SSO) is fully deployed, you'll be able to access both ServiceTrade and NorthBoundary platforms using the same login details. For updates on the SSO rollout timeline from ServiceTrade, click here.

What is ServiceTrade?

I am a NorthBoundary Customer, and I keep seeing ServiceTrade and id.servicetrade.com when I attempt to log in. What is ServiceTrade?

Last year, NorthBoundary was acquired by ServiceTrade. NorthBoundary is now a ServiceTrade Product. We are changing the login process, which includes the ServiceTrade logo being present while logging in, which you can read more about in this article.

If you want to read more about the ServiceTrade + NorthBoundary, read the following article:  ServiceTrade Acquires NorthBoundary

Why the migration process and changed login experience?

To roll out SSO across most of our applications (including ServiceTrade products), we first must migrate all user credentials. We are partnering with Auth0 to securely store user credentials and allow us to implement SSO functionality across our applications.

What about SSO using Microsoft or Google?

Once we have SSO enabled across the NorthBoundary and ServiceTrade suite of products, we will begin assisting our early adopters who wish to set up SSO through one of our two supported Corporate Identity Provider (CIP) integrations:

  • Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD)
  • Google Workspace

Our Early Adopter Program will begin in November 2023, and these integrations will generally be available in January 2024. We will provide more information at that time.

Note: Please complete our interest form here if you are interested in participating in our Early Adopter Program for these integrations. Participating accounts are required to have all their users using email addresses (one unique email address per user) as their usernames in NorthBoundary before implementing the integration.

When will Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) be available?

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application or online account.

SMS (text) MFA: If you are using NorthBoundary's SMS (text-based) MFA, this will continue to work just like before.

The only difference is the login and Verify Your Identity Page. You will be directed to ServiceTrade:

Accounts with a Corporate Identity Provider (CIP) integration will implement MFA through Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace, as applicable.

  1. Click the User button on the top right of NorthBoundary, then click Profile.
  2. Click the Sign In & Security tab.
  3. Click the button prompting you to set MFA.
  4. You will be directed to this page to select whether you want MFA via a third-party authenticator app, or via SMS (text).

    • If you select the SMS button, you will be directed to a screen that will ask you to enter your preferred phone number and click Continue. A 6-digit code will be sent to that number and you will enter in and click Continue.

What steps do I need to take, and what will change?

Once your account is migrated, you will notice two changes:

  • A slight change in your NorthBoundary Office and Mobile App login experiences.
  • A workflow change for password resets for users and admins.

How will my Office login experience change?

Once your account has been selected to migrate, the next time you log in to the NorthBoundary Office App, you will notice a different experience.

  1. On the login screen, there is now only a Login button.

  2. When you click the Login button, you will be directed to a new page at id.servicetrade.com, Enter your Username or email address and click Continue.

  4. If your credentials are correct you will be directed to the NorthBoundary Office App, as you normally are when logging in.

How will my Mobile login experience change?

Once your account has been selected to migrate, the next time you log in to a NorthBoundary Mobile App, you will notice a different experience.

  1. On the login screen, there is now only a Login button.

  4. If your credentials are correct you will be directed to the NorthBoundary Office App, as you normally are when logging in.

Make sure your techs and office staff know their current password.

Because the migration will require all users to log in to NorthBoundary, we recommend you make sure all of your techs and office staff know their current password to streamline this process.

If they do not know their password, have your Account Admin perform a reset for the users and securely provide them with their new credentials.

How will resetting my password change?

Once your account has been migrated and you successfully logged into the NorthBoundary Office App via the Universal Login Page, how you reset your password will change.

In the User Mgmt menu, you will no longer be able to change your current password to a new password:

You can only click Send Reset password email to send a secure forgot password reset email to, which will provide a link to reset your password. This email will be sent from no-reply@id.servicetrade.com

Resetting your Password

  1. When logging in to NorthBoundary, if you receive a wrong password message, you can always click the Forgot Password link at the bottom of the menu.

  2. This will send you an email to the email address in your account settings that will allow you to reset your password.
  3. Click the click here to reset your password link to be redirected to a Change Your Password Menu.
  4. Enter and Re-enter in your New Password.

  5. Click Reset Password.

Will I still be able to change my user's passwords

As an Account Admin, you have historically been able to change your users' passwords by navigating to User Mgmt, finding the user, and entering their new password. This is no longer the case once the user has first logged in using SSO.

Moving forward, you will need to do the following to reset their password:

  1. Log in as an Admin.
  2. Navigate to the User Mgmt page.
  3. Select the User whose password you want to reset.
  4. On the User's page, click a Send Reset password email button.

  5. This action will send a password reset email to the user's email address.
  6. Click the click here to reset your password link to be redirected to a Change Your Password Menu.
  7. The user will then click Confirm to be redirected to a Change Your Password Menu.
  8. They will then enter and re-enter their New Password.
    Screenshot 2023-09-20 at 2.31.44 PM.png
  9. They will then click Reset Password to finalize the password reset.

Will I still be able to Disable Login for my users?

As an admin, you can still disable login via the User Mgmt Menu. Note that this will only disable login to NorthBoundary, so if you use other ServiceTrade Products, you will need to disable those logins as well if you are trying to deny user access.

How will this impact the credentials stored in my Password Managers?

If you use a Password Manager like Google Password Manager, 1Password, LastPass, etc., you must add a new login URL to your existing credentials.

In addition to the URL https://www.northboundary.cloud/Account/Login, you will also want to add http://id.servicetrade.com

This will ensure that when you visit the new login page, your stored credentials in your password manager of choice will recognize the new login fields on the new login page.

How do I log in to NorthBoundary with Microsoft or Google?

Integrations with Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace will be part of the next Phase of SSO at NorthBoundary. You can learn more about our 3-phase rollout plan here
